Mind & Happiness 95

If we are Consciousness, that is, if Consciousness is our Real & Essential Nature, we must be Consciousness in all the 3 States (Waking, Dream, & Deep Dreamless Sleep) in which we exist.  Since our Consciousness cannot know anything else without first knowing itself without knowing "I exist", "I know" the essential nature of our Consciousness is Self-Consciousness, the Consciousness of its own Existence.

Whatever else it knows, our Consciousness always knows "I exist", "I know".  Since it always knows itself as "I exist", our Consciousness cannot be something that it knows at one time & does not know at another time.  Therefore, if we are Consciousness, we must be something that we know in all the 3 States in which we exist, something that we know whenever we exist.

We now feel our self to be not only this Body, but also the Consciousness that knows this Body. We feel our self to be the same Consciousness in Dream, even though at that time we also feel our self to be some other Body.  Is it not clear that this Consciousness that knows these bodies is more real than either of them ?

Since we are the same Consciousness in both Waking & Dream, & since we are conscious of one
Body as our self in Waking, & of some other Body as our self in Dream, is it not clear that our identification with either of these bodies is an illusion a mere imagination ?

Can we then say that we are the Consciousness that knows our Body & this World in the Waking State, & that knows some other Body & World in Dream ?  No, we cannot, because the Consciousness that knows these Bodies & Worlds is a "transient" form of Consciousness, which appears to exist only in Waking & in Dream, & which disappears in Deep Dreamless Sleep.  If we exist in deep Dreamless sleep, we cannot be this form of Consciousness that knows a Body & World, because this object-knowing form of Consciousness does not exist as such in Deep Dreamless Sleep.

Do we exist in Deep Dreamless Sleep ?  Yes, obviously we do, because when we wake up we know clearly & without any doubt "I slept" & "I had no thoughts."  If we did not exist in Deep Dreamless Sleep, we could not now know that we deeply slept.  Since Deep Dreamless Sleep is a state that we actually experience, it is not only a State in which we exist, but is also a State in which we are conscious of our existence.  If we were not conscious in Deep Dreamless Sleep, we could not know our experience in Deep Dreamless Sleep we could not know with such certainty that we slept & did not know anything at that time.  What we are unconscious of in Deep Dreamless Sleep is anything other than our own Existence, "I exist", but we are not unconscious of our own Existence.

[A brief note of explanation  the other Blog noted below is entitled "Non-Duality & Science", & so the more Science oriented pages (from what I like to think of as a "comic book") have been posted there, while other chapters have been posted here. Science is a mental discipline that attracts some worthy admirers & participators.  Some of these, too few, are good prospects for the ancient teaching introduced here in many ways.  Otherwise certain Science topics like the Anthropic Principle, reinforce the general Theism which is a good idea in this materialistic age. A few other topics in Science, such as the Copenhagen II  Max Born  Von Neumann  Wigner model of Quantum Mechanics, are worthy entries to the extent that they introduce Consciousness into the physical Sciences. All that aside, the real topic here is the pinnacle as Advaita Vedanta, Non-Duality  that pinnacle being Ajata Vada, NoCreation. The great Teachers of the same include Sri Shankara & Sri Ramana Maharshi.  Both would support Theism in general & adaptations of Vedanta, such as Vishishtadvaita Vedanta  Qualified Non-Duality, for those not making headway in Ajata Vada, their present course of growth might be better served with a temporary involvement in Qualified Non-Duality. The scientist who perhaps best expresses the influence of Qualified Non-Duality in Science, for instance, would be the quintessential "NewAge" Quantum Physicist, Amit Goswami. And so to that source, & the Quantum Activism he currently advocates [with a 1course  degree program], along with more than a half-dozen good books & former participation in the controversial What the Bleep movie, to him I extend enthusiastic endorsement, for that Qualified Non-Duality described in the context of Science.  I do not stand so much "with him", as much as nearby saluting his good work. Again, as here, the goal is inserting Consciousness into Science & "saving the World."]
