ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY–pt187
The World exists nowhere but in your Mind. So, where are you ? If the World is in your Mind, you cannot be in
the World. Where are you ? Any place & anything that appear in the
World, which exists only in your Mind, cannot be your abode. The limitations of
the World exist only in the Mind. Those
limitations in Space, Time, & such, cannot be yours. So say those who have examined their
experience & have come to know the Truth. If the World is only in your Mind, to what
should you become attached ? When you are attached to something in this World, it is only one part of the
Mind becoming attached to another
part of the Mind.
[Sri Ramana]
Work is not an obstruction to Self-Realization. For a realized being the Self alone is the Reality, & actions are only phenomenal, not affecting the Self. Even when he acts he has no sense of being an agent. His actions are only involuntary & he remains a Witness to them without any Attachment. There is no aim for this action. Even one who is still practicing the path of Wisdom (jnana) can practice while engaged in work. It may be difficult in the earlier stages for a beginner, but after some practice it will soon be effective and the work will not be found a hindrance to Meditation.
