ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY–pt205
[The Teaching of Non-Duality has been adapted from Master Nome, disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Sections appended below derive from Sri Ramana's Teaching.]
If there is One Self, why should there be this distinguishing in the practice of Self-Inquiry? This Discrimination is only for the purpose of elimination of the un-real from one's experience. The Discrimination is neither an end in itself nor a destruction of anything actually real. Between the Real & the un-real there is no division, since the Real is That which alone exists & the un-real does not exist at all. Self-Inquiry involves the Discernment of what is truly the Self & the cessation of the confounding of it with what is un-natural, or not really "I".
[Sri Ramana]
There is only one experience. What are the worldly experiences but those built up on the false "I" ? Ask the most successful man of the world if he knows his Self. He will say "No''. What can any one know without knowing the Self ? All worldly knowledge is built upon such a flimsy foundation.
Consciousness alone exists. If you have a firm conviction that this is the truth, one day this firm conviction will mature to the point where it becomes your direct experience.
