ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY–pt126
"Who" sees "what ?" No one sees anything at any time.
Vision, or the Eye, the one that "sees", that beholding or
that "seeing", is really only Pure Existence. So, Sri Ramana
describes it as One, That is
singular, for It has no Duality, no divisions in It, & there is nothing apart from It. Limitless, there is
nothing beyond It or outside of It.
It is certainly perfectly
full. Realizing It as It is, all is complete. When you think
of yourself as having Form, there is limitation. Then, there is something
outside. Then, there is something “other.” Then, there is some kind of division.
Since there cannot exist a Mind other than the Self, which
is infinite & Non-Dual, in reality the Mind can not have activity or its
results. Freedom from the Mind is
Freedom from the fears of loss of Happiness & of ceasing to exist. Freedom
from the Mind is freedom from desires & the grief resulting from those
desires. Thus one who knows the Self, free of the Mind, is truly happy & is
solely That which is the same in all
beings. All beings are by nature pure Consciousness. Difference from Consciousness is only illusory
appearance due to Ignorance. The illusory difference is removed by
comprehending the Knowledge that one is solely Pure Existence. Such Knowledge alone is the means to realize
Immortality, for Existence never ceases to be.
[Ramana]
The Self-Realized jnani does dream, but he knows it to be a Dream, in the same way as he knows the Waking State to be a Dream. The Self-Realized jnani being established in the 4th
state – turiya, the Supreme Reality – he
detachedly witnesses the 3 other states:
Waking, Dreaming, & Deep Dreamless Sleep, as pictures superimposed on the Self.
