ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY–pt132
Existence is not "nothing". If we would have an idea of "nothing", the reality quality attributed to that "nothing" would be derived from the very same Existence. So, when someone says, with apparent conviction or certitude, "There is nothing there," he is very convinced of "there", & he is very convinced of his own existence, he the one who is making the declaration. Sri Ramana Maharshi's Teaching starts at that point, questioning, "Who is it that exists ?" We could say, "What is it that exists ?" but, generally, Ramana has stated, "Who is it that exists ?" & "Who is it that sees ?" because the way for Self-Realization is non–objective.
When the Witness alone remains as one's Identity & as the Reality, all that there is to such is Pure Consciousness, which is Real Existence. Pure Existence is an "I"–less "I" with nothing else whatsoever. Until this is realized firmly, one should discriminate & cease to mis–identify, inquiring within, "Who am I ?" Knowledge is remaining free of any Mis-identification with the Body, the Mind, & the Ego.
