ENLIGHTENMENT BY SELF-INQUIRY–pt129
The Self-Inquiry:
"For whom is this ?"” returns the Reality & identity to within, & the Self-Inquiry: "Who am I ?" reveals the
True Nature of this Self. That vision in which one remaining as the Formless,
"is single, limitless, &, certainly, perfectly full." With the
rise of the notion of "I", at that very moment, the assumption of
Individuality is through Delusion only. There is an illusory deficiency. The moment that the "I" subsides,
the Reality shines just as it has always existed. The Reality is the perfect Fullness. There is
no deficiency in the Reality. There is
not anything beside the Reality, for it is Limitless. That means that no one
& nothing can stand apart from the Reality – not God, not the World, & most certainly not the Individual.
"If the Self is Formless, who is to see ?" Inquire & examine the
definitions of the Seer. Know the Seer.
To spiritually wake up, one must know the Self truly. The
Reality of the Self is pure Consciousness with no Duality& with nothing
else existing whatsoever. One cannot
have simultaneously the Knowledge of the Self & the idea of oneself as a
Performer of activity or an Experiencer. For steady, unmixed Knowledge, one should cease
such Mis-identification. In the Waking
State , one experiences the interior
& the exterior, what is sensed & what is thought. In the Dream
State , the case is identical. In both States, these [interior & the
exterior, what is sensed & what is thought] are not the Self & are
unreal. Those contents in both States should not be regarded as defining the
Self. When such contents are falsely
associated with the Self, that is super–imposition.
No activity of the exterior & the interior yields Liberation, for activity
of an unreal super–imposition cannot
yield Eternal, real Liberation.
[Ramana]
The
Self-Realized jnani is the ever-Waking state, because he is awake to the
Eternal Self. His is the ever-Dreaming
state, because to him the World is no better than a repeatedly presented Dream
phenomenon. His is the ever-sleeping
state, because he is at all times without the "I am the
Body"-consciousness.
